Plant this low-care Perennial in an area that receives the right amount of light, preferring the morning sun to bring out the best coloration. Albomarginata thrives in full shade in all growing zones because too much sun will burn the leaves. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Top-dress with a 3 – 4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Snip off Hostas blooms as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it’s time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide the clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor. It is best to keep areas around Hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails.
