Tips for Care:
Provide this sun-loving shrub with at least six hours of sunshine a day. They’ll perform best in well-drained soil that sheds water quickly after a rainfall. Once their roots are established in your soil, they’ll even become drought-tolerant and waterwise. Ensure your container has plenty of drainage holes if they’ll be kept in containers. A touch of fertilizer and a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch around the plant’s roots will give them insulation and support.
For the first season in the ground, give consistent water. Container plants need a regular schedule of water on a consistent basis. Add a three-inch layer of mulch to reduce surface evaporation. It will slowly improve your soil over time, but be sure it doesn’t directly touch the stems. If you need to shape them, do very light pruning in the late winter or very early spring. Rejuvenate them by removing the thickest, oldest stems out to the ground every few years.
