Caramel Kiss Plum Tree (Prunus salicina ‘Caramel Kiss’)
Caramel Kiss Plum Tree
Beautiful coppery skin blushed purple with a glaucous bloom, the gorgeous fruit of the Caramel Kiss Plum Tree (Prunus salicina ‘Caramel Kiss’) is an early-season wonder to behold!
The creamy red tinted flesh features a crisp and crunchy texture that is very sweet and rich! Eaten fresh off the tree, these are incredibly juicy, beautiful fruit! You’ll be in no rush to harvest because these have a long harvest period!
The glossy green foliage of this tall yet narrow fruit tree is wonderfully sized to fit into large or small yards with ease. With a bit of pruning, even the smallest property can accommodate its own Plum tree!
Fragrant, frilly white blooms attract a host of bees and pollinators to aid in helping pollinate your fruit. While self-fruitful, you’ll enjoy a much larger harvest when you plant this with another Plum or another Caramel Kiss for better cross-pollination. Hardy and adapted to warmer growing zones, these are heat tolerant trees!
With the beautiful spring bloom display and lovely form, these are highly ornamental landscaping trees in their own right! Add a bountiful harvest of healthy fruit, and you have a fantastic specimen or focal point for your landscape!
Shade garden beds or seating areas with lush summer foliage. These slim profile trees easily tuck into existing orchards and established home landscapes.
The fruit is rich and flavorful, and the sweet crisp crunch carries over into your cooking, baking and canning recipes. Ripening just in time for summer barbecues, try grilling Plum halves to bring out their sweetness and caramelize the sugars! Jams, jelly and pies take on the unique color of the flesh and of course that incredible flavor!
Tuck one of these healthy gems with lunch for a portable treat that’s high in antioxidants and vitamins. You’ll want to set up a blanket beneath the cooling summer shade and enjoy fruit right off the limbs of your tree! Nothing beats homegrown produce in flavor and quality, plus you will know exactly what goes into (and onto) your tree!
Caramel Kiss thrives in USDA hardiness zones 6 through to 9! Requiring only 400-600 chill hours, fruit trees do need full sun for the most vigorous growth and best harvest. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun.
Plant your tree in rich, organically enhanced, well-drained soil, adding compost and manure to further enrich the soil. A thick layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.
Provide ample water for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Once established, reduce your watering to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of summer and when fruiting. While somewhat drought-tolerant when they’re established, it’s best to protect your investment by providing supplemental watering in times of need.
For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Situate in an area that is protected from frost pockets and with good air circulation. Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior. In summer control the size of your tree, but in winter prune out dead, diseased or damaged limbs.
