The Showiest Of All Cherry Trees
The Kwanzan Cherry tree is a true showstopper! This cherry tree has some of the most striking blossoms in the cherry family. Unlike other cherry trees that start to lose their charm as the season progresses, Kwanzan blossoms take over and continue to turn heads.
The tree produces double blossoms that are a spectacle to behold. Each blossom has double the petals, giving the impression of a flower within a flower. The deep-pink blossoms grow in clusters, giving the tree the appearance of being covered with thousands of small roses. It’s no wonder why this tree is the star of spring!
As the blossoms begin to fade, bronze leaves take their place and then turn glossy green for the summer. In the fall, the leaves turn a brilliant yellow-orange, and as winter arrives, the Kwanzan Cherry’s thin, glossy bark steals the show.
The love affair between America and cherry blossom trees began in the early 1900s when thousands were sent to our nation’s capital by the Japanese. Today, we continue to honor this gift during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, where people can enjoy their natural beauty for weeks.
Fortunately, you don’t have to wait until spring to enjoy this year-round beauty in your own yard! The Kwanzan Cherry tree thrives when planted in full sun and can grow in a variety of soil types and climates. It can quickly grow up to 30 feet high and wide, making it a great addition to any yard.
If you notice any spots or holes on your tree, don’t worry! These are minor issues caused by the natural environment and won’t affect the overall health of your plant. While we take great care to prevent issues in our nursery, sometimes Mother Nature has other plans.
