The cheery color combo of the Dakota™ Verde Penstemon (Penstemon digitalis ‘TNPENDV’) adds gorgeous contrast to the garden! Rosy lavender to violet flowers are tubular and attract a host of butterflies and hummingbirds! Standing tall atop 24 inch tall, strong dark-purple stems and shiny ornamental foliage! In warmer growing zones, those 12-18 inch mounds of glossy green leaves remain evergreen through winter for an added bonus!
The light pink interiors of these tubular blooms just glow when set against the rosy violet outsides! Combined with the dark pink of the ends where they attach to the stems creates a fantastic ombre effect! Add in the dramatic deep maroon-purple stems and you have a fantastic contrast in color all summer and incredible focal points in bouquets! Rounded clumps of glossy green leaves are blushed with dramatic purple overtones and dark seed heads for fall interest.

Tips for Care:
Penstemon flowers best in full sun and in well-drained soil conditions, preferring average soil types on the lean side. Provide regular moisture access throughout their first year, but once these herbaceous perennials are established, they are blissfully drought-tolerant and xeric! Provide a 3-4 inch thick layer of Mulch around their crowns, these are very cold tolerant, you can leave these seed heads as winter interest and attract songbirds, or deadhead them to tidy up the mounds in fall. Trim all foliage down late fall after frost, and divide every few years to maintain the vigor of the crown.
