Deutschland Astilbe (Astilbe japonica ‘Deutschland’)

Deutschland Astilbe

  • Easy To Grow
  • Brilliant White Flowers
  • Makes Great Cut Flowers
  • Attracts Hummingbirds

The Deutschland Astilbe (Astilbe japonica ‘Deutschland’) produces brilliant, show-stopping, and feathery white flower plumes that spike up high above the center of an attractive mound of green to bronze, fern-like foliage.

A early to mid-summer flowering perennial, Astilbe thrives in rich, cool, partially shaded, and moist locations. It looks amazing when combined with hardy Ferns and leafy Hostas, or in a mass planting for visual effect.

This compact plant grows up to two feet tall and wide, and can be used in many ways. They’d do great in shade gardens, patios, woodland gardens and containers. It also makes a superb ground cover or plant for edging in other shaded areas of your yard.

It’s recommended to wait to cut the foliage back until spring, as that will help protect the plant during the winter months. It’s also best to fertilize Astilbe in late spring, before the flowers emerge. Mulch around the base of the plant is always a great addition, to help maintain moisture during those dryer months.

The Deutschland Astilbe makes an excellent cut flower, for bringing indoors, or for drying, in natural bouquets. Imagine combining the white blooms with other loud colors!

The Astilbe is considered to be deer and rabbit resistant and will also attract hummingbirds to your yard, without much care or maintenance.
