Double Flowering Japanese Kerria, Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’, has showy, double, golden yellow flowers that bloom in early spring among bright green foliage.
Japanese Kerria is an open, fast growing shrub and has yellow-green stems that add color to the winter landscape. It prefers a loamy, well-drained soil. It can be grown in sun or part shade, but does best in full sun.
Japanese Kerria is a good shrub that has been used since pre-Civil War times. There are few plants that can produce the orange/gold flowers so early in the season.
Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’ can be used in the landscape as a specimen or in a shrub border. This shrub can fit in just about anywhere. Branches zigzag at internodes and blooms for up to 2 months.
The early spring flowering, unique branching, and the Kelly green bark provide all seasons interest. The green bark is retained throughout the winter.
