How to Use Drew’s Blue™ Siberian Carpet Cypress in the Landscape

Gift yourself a lavish oasis in your backyard. Use a series of Drew’s Blue to fill in an ultra-modern patio planting.

Why “gild the lily” when you don’t have to? Rely on these lovely foliage plants as a mass planting in permanent beds.

Pop annuals or perennials that provide temporary color into exterior containers. You’ll get the best of both worlds, and can relax with your guests in high style.

For a solid fill, plant them twelve inches apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Mulch between plants, taking care to keep it from touching the stems.

Line your walkways with a distinguished ribbon of soft texture. Add them in a long line to face your mature evergreen shrubs in your foundation planting.

Drew’s Blue is an excellent facer shrub to cover leggy bare stems of larger shrubs.

They pair beautifully with purple-foliage of Ninebark, Purple-Leaf Sand Cherry and even the Black Diamond series of Crape Myrtles in Zones 6 through 8.

Tips for Care

This steadfast selection tolerates full sun, but also thrives in partial shade, as well. Provide at least four hours of sunlight a day.

The biggest care requirement is providing well-drained soils. It simply won’t tolerate “wet feet.”

Elevate your planting in a raised bed, or plant high in a mound of additional soil. Containers are also a great option if you see puddles that remain after rainfall in your preferred planting site.

Provide a medium amount of water on a regular basis for both young plants, and those grown in containers. After the root system is well-established in your soil, it will become waterwise.

You’ll likely never have to prune these well-behaved plants. Unless, that is, you decide to snip a frond as greenery in your bouquets.
