Tips for Care:

Plant Elegans Hosta where it will get no more than four hours of direct sunlight. These are perennials for partial to full shade. Most Hosta does best with consistent moisture. Get your Elegans established in your soil with a schedule of supplemental water in the first season. After that, this particular variety can tolerate longer dry periods than others. If Elegans Hosta doesn’t get a moderate amount of water, the leaves become more glaucous. This silvery-gray overcast is quite attractive and works to protect the large leaves from drying out.

These herbaceous perennials grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Provide moderate yet consistent moisture throughout the growing season and these appreciate a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch chips to help hold in moisture more consistently and help enrich the soil further. Deadhead after flowers fade, and clean the foliage away from the plant once it dies back in the autumn. Add a layer of mulch over the crown of the plants in the winter.
