Evergreen, Flowering Growth for Shade in California
Why Fragrant Sweetboxes?
White spring flowers meet stunning year-round evergreen color, elevating the Fragrant Sweetbox to instant landscape favorite. And because it’s grown for your Golden State landscape, it’s especially perfect for your collection of curb-appeal staples. Plus, since it’s resistant to pests and diseases, it’s virtually carefree.
Even better? It’s unbelievably versatile. Not only does it grow easily in a number of conditions or locales, from dry areas to shady sites and more, but it also forms natural espaliers against walls and outlasts other plants that die back later in the season. Though no matter where you plant it, its fragrance imparts second-to-none delight that guests and neighbors will love.
Planting & Care
When you’re ready to plant, dig a hole that’s about one and a half to two times the size of your plant’s root ball, place the Sweetbox in the hole, back fill the soil and water to settle the roots. Mulching around the area is also beneficial to lock in moisture during the first few growing seasons.
2. Watering: Once established, your Fragrant Sweetbox is moderately drought tolerant, but it’s important to have a regular watering schedule for the first few growing seasons. Water about once weekly or check the surrounding soil…if the surrounding soil is dry about 2 or 3 inches down, it’s time to water your Fragrant Sweetbox.
3. Fertilizing: Apply a well-balanced fertilizer to your Sweetbox in early spring.
4. Pruning: Prune your Fragrant Sweetbox in the spring after it flowers – this helps maintain a neat, tidy appearance.
