How to Grow and Care for Giant Leopard Plant

Giant Leopard Plant (Farfugium japonicum ‘Giganteum’) Growing Requirements

Hardiness zone 7-10 outdoors

Planting

It’s easy to maintain, but it’s important that you plant your Giant Leopard Plant in rich, moist but well-drained soil and in a fully to partially shaded area. Once you’ve selected your location, simply dig a hole that’s two to three times the width of your Leopard’s root ball, place the plant and back fill its soil. After planting, water to settle its roots.

Watering

Water regularly and deeply during the first growing season, about once or twice per week or when your Leopard’s surrounding soil is dry. Check for soil dryness about 2 to 3 inches down – if the soil is dry, it’s time to water. Once your plant is established, continue to water it regularly to maintain evenly moist soil.

Fertilizing

Apply a well-balanced fertilizer yearly, before new growth emerges during spring.

Pruning

No pruning necessary – simply remove spent flowers to promote continued blooming.
