What is Hot Wings Maple Tree

Growing wider than it is tall, the Hot Wings Tatarian Maple Tree makes a great addition to any yard as a brightly colored, yet small and compact tree. It’s stronger and more durable than other maple varieties, standing up to snow, ice, heat and drought with ease.

One of the most unique features of the Hot Wings Tatarian Maple Tree is its bright red colored samsaras, or helicopters, that pop against bright green foliage in spring. It’s almost like the plant world’s version of Christmas in July!

Adaptable to most soil conditions, Hot Wings is easy-growing and more resistant to nutritional deficiencies than other maples. It is small, compact, and could be perfectly planted as a statement piece in a yard, along a sidewalk, or framing a garden wall.

In the spring, your Hot Wings Maple will yield tiny blossoms of white flowers, and in the fall it offers orange-red and yellow foliage. Throughout nearly every season, it delights with a brilliant display of colors, while remaining small and compact.

This one-of-a-kind maple doesn’t require too much pruning or maintenance, and it can live up to 70 years or more. Add this bright, bold accent tree to your landscape today!

How to Grow and Care for Hot Wings Maple Tree

[plant_requirements]

Planting

Plant in an area of full to partial sun. Hardy to most soil conditions, this tree is also noticeable for being drought tolerant and can survive in even urban environments. Note that a significant amount of red helicopter seeds will fall in late summer, so plant in an area where there is ample room for that to not cause any issues.

Watering

Water generously upon first planting and monitor for hydration needs upon first year to two years of growth. Thereafter, leave it to grow largely on its own.

Pruning

Pruning is recommended and should be done in later winter or early spring to maximize blooms. Cut along the sides to improve sunlight access to select parts of the tree and to maintain desired shape.

Consider protecting the trunk of the tree in winter if it has potential to be exposed to more damaging weather elements.
