With star-shaped blooms with toothy petals, these fragrant beauties enliven a tired garden with fresh color!
Forming a low growing mound of silvery, blue-green grassy foliage, they cascade and ramble over rocks and garden edges. They are naturals for edging and defining the fronts of sunny gardens.
With a late spring until early summer bloom time, these flowers smother the foliage in bold color! Attracting hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, these perennials are long-lasting additions to any landscape!
The blooms are fragrant, featuring a spicy-sweet smell that’s strong and attracts a great many pollinators and bees! Plus these lovely plants have stems suitable for small bouquets and nosegays!
With humidity, heat and drought tolerance, these easy-care, deer-resistant perennials offer great resistance to urban conditions and the coldest winters. In warmer climates, these can even remain evergreen!
How to Use Kahori® Scarlet Dianthus In The Landscape
These are fantastic edging and border plants, adding definition along the fronts of your garden! Small enough to tuck into established gardens, Dianthus are classic beauties!
Both filler and spillers for patio planters and balcony containers, even window boxes are fantastic locations! Container gardeners can use this versatile perennial no matter the size of their garden!
Spilling over the edges of retaining walls and rambling down slopes. Make those hard-to-mow areas in the sun something special. Rambling and cascade over rock walls and softening hardscapes with graceful beauty!
Perfect for Cottage and Perennial beds to tidy up larger plants and hide bare stems. They add bright scarlet color to Pollinator or Border gardens!
Rock gardens are perfect locations for these drought-tolerant plants and that ‘hell-strip’ along the road. Plant along your driveway or pathways, or skirting the entry to your home.
Tips For Care
Perfect full sun perennials, Dianthus are great for USDA hardiness zones 4-8, preferring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. In warmer growing zones, the foliage can often remain evergreen!
Thriving in most types of loose, well-drained soil with moderate moisture, and tolerating sandy or rocky, gravel sites, you can bet they perform in your average, fertile garden bed even better!
Plant in neutral to slightly alkaline soil with moderate fertility. Mulch to keep the moisture consistent and to better insulate the roots from heat and cold.
Requiring moderate, yet consistent moisture while young plants are getting established. Afterward, these are drought-tolerant, however, it is best to protect your investment by providing supplemental watering during summer heat and drought.
Deer resistant and easy care, Garden Pinks have been a landscaping standard for ages and continue to brighten gardens around the world. They are versatile perennials and the only care they require is occasional deadheading to keep those brilliant blooms returning until summer!
Once the first flush of spring blooms fades, deadhead or shear the entire plant back to encourage a second burst of flowering that can last well into late summer!
