Easy-Growing Shade and Long-Lived Adaptability
Why Mesquite Trees?
Known as the “Tree of Life,” the Mesquite Tree is famous for supplying shade, classic good looks and easy benefits. In fact, Mesquites are extremely adaptable and tolerant to a wide range of growing conditions, making them well-suited to nearly any type of landscape.
Dark green leaves and a sculptural, iconic growth habit set them apart. So, not only is the Mesquite Tree super strong, but it’s also amazingly good-looking. Yellow-cream catkin flowers emerge in the spring – the perfect pop to the backdrop of eye-catching foliage. And the Mesquite’s canopy is full and graceful, ideal for fresh shade.
Aside from its ability to adjust to little or abundant watering, and its high tolerance of drought, our Mesquite is a must-have because we’ve prepared it for long-term, long-lived growth. Because we’ve put in the time to ensure your Mesquite thrives, long before it ships to your door, you have a greater chance of success in your own landscape.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Start by choosing an area with full sun – about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day. Well-drained soil is also important for your Mesquite Tree to thrive.
When you’re ready to plant, dig a hole that’s about two times the width of the tree’s root ball. Place your tree, back fill the soil and water to settle the roots.
2. Watering: Water your Mesquite Tree weekly for best results – the soil should be moist but not oversaturated. Though it’s drought tolerant once established (storing water in its trunk), it’s important to keep young trees hydrated. If the surrounding soil is dry to a depth of 3 inches, it’s time to water.
3. Fertilizing: Typically,Mesquite Trees don’t need fertilizer, due to their ability to convert nitrogen in the soil. Only fertilize if you notice that your tree shows signs of nitrogen deficiency – in this case, its foliage may start yellowing.
