Want gorgeous ornamental trees that look incredible year-round? How about one we’re sure none of your neighbors have? If so, then you definitely want to check out the Camperdown Weeping Elm Tree (Ulmus glabra ‘Camperdownii’)! This elegant and cascading umbrella-shaped tree deserves to be the prize at the center of a winding maze or hidden away in a secret garden, behind an ivy-covered garden gate!
Camperdown has the typical, pleated and toothy, bright green leaves of the Elm family! Tiny reddish-green flowers that attract bees in the springtime, quickly become winged reddish-green seeds and add contrast among the foliage. You’ll especially enjoy the faster growth and fine texture the foliage offers your landscape!
This Weeping Elm Tree doesn’t just look good during the growing season. Once those leaves drop, winter will reveal the incredible branching and framework of this magnificent specimen tree! It’s as pretty as a picture and looks even better with a dusting of snow atop each of those uniquely, with somewhat contorted, artistically arranged branches!
Planting and Application:
Weeping Elm Trees are a romantic cottage garden and Victorian garden crown jewel. Their graceful form and whimsical fairytale-like growth are perfect for both a children’s garden and a Meditation garden alike! Mirror this beauty in a moon pool or Zen garden water feature where you can relax and let the real world melt away, even if just for a little while. Make this tree the prize at the end of a winding path that leads to a destination garden that only a select few know about!
An old weeping form of Scotch Elm, Camperdown looks phenomenal planted near your home’s front door or adorning the corner of your home’s foundation plantings. Create a berm in the middle of your front or back yard to add a dramatic specimen garden that highlights your property from everyone else! Create your own secret woodland wonderland in your backyard near your seating areas for a real conversation piece! Think of it as ‘living sculpture’ and well worth the investment!

Tips for Care:
This deciduous top-grafted weeping ornamental tree is hardy to USDA growing zones 4 through 7 and ultimately reaches a mature height of 15-25 feet in mature height. Spreading out to a wide 20-30 feet! Elm Trees need full sun for the strongest growth and brightest color. Adaptable to nearly any type of well-drained soil, these need adequate moisture to establish and more during times of drought. Prune in late winter to clean up the branching to make it more defined. If you do snip out any branches, they’ll certainly make some beautiful additions to floral bouquets and dried décor!
- Full Sun
- Moderate Moisture & Appreciates Mulch
