Do you want a groovy butterfly garden this year? Turn any space in your garden into a butterfly magnet! First Editions® Groovy Grapeâ„¢ Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii ‘PIIBD-I’ PP 26,305) is a shrub covered in huge (six to ten inches long!) spikes of violet-purple flowers that are an instant draw to butterflies and hummingbirds far and wide. The flowers are strikingly colored and come in droves, ensuring that you will have plenty of great cuts for inside as well as plenty of food for butterflies and hummingbirds outside.
Take care to deadhead this beauty and you will have flowers well into autumn. Once winter hits, Groovy Grape will die back to the ground in cold winter places. In warmer climates, prune it back in spring to 12 inches to rejuvenate the entire plant.
Like all butterfly bushes, Groovy Grape does best in full sun – otherwise it will get leggy and sparse. It doesn’t like wet feet, either so give it a place in your garden with good drainage.
Groovy Grape flowers are a classic color in buddleais. Plant it with other butterfly attracting plants in shades of yellows and oranges or lavenders and blues.
Groovy Grape will grow quickly to fill in bare spots in your foundation plantings, borders and beds.
