Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: You can plant this tree in a place that receives full sun. For climates that face extreme cold it is better to plant this tree as an understory. Be sure to plant in a spot with well-drained soil. The Paperbark is not picky about soil, but does better with slightly alkaline soils. You can amend your soil as necessary. Be sure to dig a hole deep enough for the root ball to have some room to spread out. After planting, add a thick layer of mulch around the base of the tree to keep out competing weeds and help with water retention.
Watering: Keep your tree well watered as the Paperbark Maple is not drought tolerant. If you get less than 1″ of rain per week, be sure to water deeply that week. When you are first trying to establish your tree, make sure to water very deeply.
Maintenance: There is not additional maintenance for this tree. IF you wish, you can prune the tree as desired to remove dead branches or shape the tree with a main leader. If you do prune, do so during winter as this Maple will bleed sap after winter.
