- Soft Green Foliage
- Stays Small
- Easy Care
Thuja’s are shrubs that landscapers turn to when they need to quickly screen an area or fill up an empty space. Thuja’s are usually tall and thick and grow very quickly.
Looking for the exception to that rule?
Tater Totâ„¢ Arborvitae (Thuja plicata ‘SMNTOBAB’ PP30,761) only grows 1-2′ tall and is just a little taller than it is wide. It is an almost perfectly round cute orb of deep green. It is covered in swirling whorls of foliage that give it a rich texture and movement.
The bright, deep green foliage lends such a great look to the evergreen border that we can see this being a new go-to for foundation landscaping. Smaller yard? No problem!
This is a good replacement for Boxwood, as it never needs pruning. Try it in a container for an elegant look. One on either side of the front door is such a classic way to greet guests in style.
Tater Tot is very hardy and burns resistant. It doesn’t fade in the winter and looks just as captivating in the heat of the summer as under blankets of snow in the winter. It grows faster than other globes Arborvitae’s to reach its full height.
Tater Tot works really well as a low-maintenance hedge or border. It’s happy as a focal point or as a team player.
It blends well with maroon and golden-leaved companions. It also is a great foil for larger Evergreens and Fir trees. Try it in a row lining a path, or in an arc at the edge of a foundation planting.
Water to establish, and as needed when dry. Better to keep it evenly moist, with regular waterings than wait for the soil to dry between waterings. (This is true for all Arborvitae.)
