How to Use Pugster White® Butterfly Bush in the Landscape

Even a single plant makes a big difference for Monarch butterflies as they gear up for their long yearly migration. These blooms are composed of many hundreds of nectar rich flowers.

Plant them with a few of our Black-Eyed Susans near your garden gate for a mini Butterfly Garden! Include a Butterfly Weed and Swamp Milkweed nearby for a host plant for baby caterpillars.

The Pugster series stays small enough to line a mature foundation planting. Expand it out a few feet, and breathe new life to the facade of your home.

Use three in an oversized container. You’ll be so excited by your new garden feature! In Zone 5, just protect with row cover or a simple burlap wrap in fall after a long drink.

If you are a workaholic, you should rely on white-flowering plants to set the stage for evening relaxation. They’ll continue to gleam in low light, so kick your feet up and light a citronella candle when you get home.

LIne your patio with a short row of these appealing small shrubs. Plant them two feet apart on center for a lush, solid screen; measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

Add more rows for an effective mass planting. Keep the look crisp and clean with Pugster White®, or design a fun mix of colors from our extensive online catalog.

Tips for Care

Buddleia needs at least six hours of daylight for best flowering. They also require well-drained soil that doesn’t stay soggy for long.

When your plants are young—or if you’ll keep them in containers—supply them a regular schedule of supplemental water. Once their root systems are established in your landscape, they’ll become waterwise.

Trim them back in early spring. In Zone 5…cut them to the ground. In all other Zones, cut them to 12 inches tall.

Each year, the lavish white blooms and cool-toned foliage emerges from the roots.
