Radiant Rose Chinese Dogwood (Cornus kousa chinensis ‘Hanros’)

Radiant Rose Chinese Dogwood

Get your sunglasses out because the Radiant Rose™ Chinese Dogwood (Cornus kousa chinensis ‘Hanros’) shines brighter than ever. The spots in your garden that you feel are looked over, will no longer have that problem with the illuminating bright pink flowers that pop on top of its glossy, dark green foliage! The petals are actually bracts, with the actual flowers being little buttons in the center. However, bees and butterflies won’t care and visit all the same!

Featuring a spreading, arched habit, these are versatile trees that can be used as a fluffy and full shrubby tree or ‘limbed-up’ and used as a single-stemmed tree. The green foliage casts lush screening or shade depending on how you use it! In the fall, you will be in complete awe of the stunning red-purple fall foliage that effortlessly stands out and adds vibrant dark colors to the fall colors in your landscaping.

You, your wildlife, and songbirds will all appreciate the strawberry-sized red fruit that appears in the late summer/fall! People can eat these highly ornamental, sweet fruits, juice them, or make delectable preserves! The fruit can persist until fall or winter if the birds don’t carry them all off first!

Radiant Rose™ grows to be about 20 feet tall with a spread of 20 feet, adaptable and low maintenance throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9. Growing moderately and blooming after just a few years, this lovely flowering ornamental tree won’t require much work from you!

Planting and Application:

Planting your Radiant Rose™ Chinese Dogwood in plain sight by itself as a specimen plant is no issue for this looker. Everyone will want to stop and admire its beauty. Tips for Care:

Kousa Dogwood Trees are incredibly versatile when planted properly in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. Give your tree the extra treatment it deserves by planting a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree to ensure even moisture, not to mention the difference it can make on the overall physical appearance of your landscaping.

Prune Dogwood to shape when dormant, and remove water growth or suckers after flowering. Decide what you want to keep first, then remove crossed branches and branches heading into the interior of the canopy to open it up for sunlight penetration and air circulation.
