- Sweet, Large Guavas
- Frilly Pink Flowers
- Purplish-Red Tinged Foliage
No tropical garden is complete without a guava tree. While all the guava trees we offer are amazing, the Red Malaysian Guava (Psidium guajava ‘Red Malaysian’) is one of the most colorful. It has red fruit, fluffy pink flowers, reddish-purple tinted leaves, and peeling bark.
The Red Malaysian Guava is a mainstay of the subtropics. This variety produces some of the largest guavas which can grow up to 4-inches. They are rich in vitamins A and C. In fact, they have more vitamin C than oranges!
These guavas are anything but boring. They ripen to a rich red and have bright pink flesh. These are lightly sweet and have small crunchy seeds. All guavas have thin, fragile skin, and this variety is no different. These have some of the thinnest skin with the least bitterness.
When you cut into a Red Malaysian Guava, your mouth will water, and your senses will alight from the sweetly fragrant scent. They make wonderful jelly and taste amazing added to salads.
This plant won’t just provide you with plenty of fruit, it will also gift your garden with beauty. It has layers of shedding bark and foliage that is deep red hidden beneath the green topsides. This foliage will blush to complete red in cooler winters. And the Red Malaysian Guava produces a flurry of puffy pink and white flowers with pompoms of stamens in summer.
You won’t want to hide this attractive plant. It makes a fabulous specimen tree that maintains a reasonable size. Its shiny leaves are dense which makes this an ideal background hedge that will highlight how beautiful your front border plants are.
This subtropical delight thrives in full sun. The Red Malaysian Guava does well in a wide range of soils and does best with medium moisture.
This self-fruiting wonder is an excellent addition to any topical or subtropical landscape. If you want a guava tree that is both dramatic and fertile, you will adore your Red Malaysian Guava.
