16-Cell Seed Starting Trays

  • Engineered for Perfect Plant Growth

Each individual cell in 16-Cell Trays features 4 internal ribs to prevent root spiraling. The bottoms of each cell are also open providing air pruning at the lower end of each cell.

  • Convenient and Flexible

16-Cell Trays are designed to fit into a 1″ 1020 Universal Bottom Tray, mimicking a classic 128-cell tray.

This design gives you the convenience of having all of your seedlings in one tray. At the same time, you can easily remove a single 16-Cell Tray at a time as seedlings mature, without having to prick out individual seedlings like you would with a standard cell insert tray.

These trays are perfect for starting seedlings without taking up a lot of nursery space. They’re crafted specifically for sowing green onions, herbs, greens, tomatoes, peppers, and brassicas.

  • Designed With The Gardener in Mind

Large, convenient finger holes in the bottom of each cell make it easy to remove seedlings when you’re ready to transplant. No more using a knife or tool to remove your plants; simply push the seedling out with your finger.

How To Use Starter Cells

16-Cell Seed Starting Trays

  • Fill your Starter Cells with a seed-starting mix, and add just enough water to moisten the soil, but not waterlog it.
  • Dig a small hole with your finger, a pencil, or a chopstick. Ensure the hole depth is not more than 3x the width of the seed.
  • Drop your seeds in and lightly cover them with starting mix.
  • Add a light misting of water from a spray bottle, or just enough to moisten the seeds.
  • If you have some plastic wrap handy, loosely drape it over the top of the pot to promote high humidity conditions that seeds love. Poke 3-5 holes in the top of the plastic wrap for ventilation. Or use a specialized dome cover.
  • Place your cells on a sunny windowsill or under a grow light, and keep the soil moist as the seeds begin to germinate. Once sprouts come up, remove the plastic wrap or dome cover.
  • Keep the healthiest seedling and remove extras with a pair of scissors, being careful not to damage the healthy seedling.
  • Continue to keep the soil moist as your plant grows. When it’s 3 to 4 inches tall, easily pop out your starts and transplant them in the garden.
