Sombrero Blanco Coneflower (Echinacea SOMBRERO ‘Balsomblanc’)
Sombrero Blanco Coneflower
Are you tired of replanting the annual flowerbed every year? Quick, easy color is good, but what if we could offer you a plant that fills your bed to overflowing with flowers that are easier to care for than annuals and get better every year?
Perhaps it’s time to replant with Sombrero Blanco Coneflower. These pristine white versions of the native Echinacea purpurea (coneflower) will reliably fill your flower beds every year from mid-summer until the first frost.
Plant Sombrero Blanco in full sun and average soil and it will reward you with snow-white blooms all season. It is compact – only 2′ high and wide – but covers itself in white daisy-like flowers with high gold-colored central cones for months on end.
Once Blanco is established it is heat, drought, deer and rabbit resistant and will bring you years of pleasure. It is weather sturdy, too, bearing up to summer rain with finesse.
Besides replacing your annuals, Blanco is well-suited to perennial borders, natural meadows, butterfly or pollinator gardens and wildlife gardens. They are perfect for containers and are stars in the cutting garden. Cut as many as you want – they will reflower freely.
You should leave some on for the winter, though, because birds love the high central cones and if you let the flowers dry on the plant they will entertain the birds all winter.
Sombrero Blanco will bring a refreshing shade of white and tons of flowers to your garden.
