Spring Welcome Magnolia (Magnolia x loebneri Ruth’)

Spring Welcome Magnolia

Greet spring with a profusion of heavenly white blooms! The Spring Welcome® Magnolia Tree (Magnolia × loebneri ‘Ruth’ P.A.F.) is a fantastic early blooming, double bloom that erupts with abandon before the leaves emerge each year. Picturesque and fast-growing, these fragrant, double, star-shaped blooms pop out of their pinkish buds around mid-spring.

This gorgeous hybrid deciduous tree then reveals dark green pointed foliage that displays coppery bronze fall color and showy green seedpods the birds seek out in autumn! The relaxed, oval form stands out with its coarse texture but won’t overpower the setting, only growing about 15 feet in height and with a smaller spread at maturity.

Spring Welcome® is fantastically cold-hardy, and the slender stems look lovely in the winter punctuated by fuzzy-covered buds that keep the flowers warm until spring. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones X – X, these are long-lived trees in the proper conditions!

Planting and Application:

Magnolias are picture-perfect landscaping ornamental trees that attract loads of pollinators and birds! Made for front yard landscaping, specimens, and general garden accents, their size makes them easily tucked into the smallest properties without outgrowing their spaces.

Spring Welcome® arrives often with their branching low, so you can use them as stately hedges and privacy screens, offering up bird-friendly shelterbelts and windbreaks. Otherwise, limb up the trunks and keep them as multi-stemmed or single-stemmed specimens! Elevate a moon garden or reflect one in a calm pool in your meditation nook for a beautiful retreat with a Spring Welcome®!

Tips for Care:

Magnolias are easy to care for ornamental flowering trees and just need a full sun location in well-drained soil to do their best. Also tolerating partial shade, however, you will see fewer blooms in anything less than 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant in enriched soil with a 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the root system, ensuring it extends out over the entire dripline. Provide consistent moisture for new trees, then only supplemental moisture throughout hot summers and during drought. Best in a protected location in the coldest hardiness zones.
