The Secret To Healthier Plants? Let’s Ask My Grandfather


My grandfather has long been a school builder who depends on his livelihood. Like the farmers at the time, he knew that the secret to optimal yield and plant health began in the soil. If the land is right and other conditions are favorable, the yields are higher and he can go down to feed his family for the rest of the year.

My grandfather also knew that soil conditions and health directly affected the ability of plants to fight disease and insects. He had to use all kinds of insecticides in his garden, which were almost unknown. Still, he has no problems with insects.

So the question of what is the secret to healthier and more beautiful plants must begin with what is the secret of healthy soil.

Many factors affect the quality and condition of your floor. And at the top of the list is the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of the soil. Most people have heard about soil pH, but very few know how important it is and what is the difference in color, yield, aroma, health, etc.

If the soil pH is wrong, nutrient absorption is limited or fully restricted. No matter how much fertilizer you add, plants cannot use it effectively. For example, iron is trapped in too alkaline ground. No matter how much iron you add, plants cannot absorb and use it.

On Grandpa’s Day, people will actually try the soil to test pH. If it’s sweet, it’s sour. If it’s acidic, it’s alkaline. Fortunately, we don’t have to go to the garden and eat poop. Modern test equipment is available in park centers, the price is cheap and easy to use.

Most plants prefer slightly acidic soil to neutral soil. Neutral is 7 on the scale, whereas weak acids are 6 on the scale. And I say most plants. Some plants prefer acidic soils, others are alkaline. It is good to know a little about what you are developing.

Now my grandfather has a magic ingredient that he keeps adding to the floor. This magic ingredient will truly create healthy soil, a perfect buffer pH and facilitate proper absorption of nutrients. It also makes plants less comfortable for insects.

Magic ingredient? Not hard. Missing art and science. Certainly. The magic potion is that he obediently returns everything to the ground. Starting from crop waste, liquid fertilizer to kitchen waste. The magic ingredients are nothing more than pure natural organic substances. If it is determined that the floor is unbalanced, it is a simple adjustment. Small sulfur to buffer alkalinity, or less lime to acid buffer, and also more organic organs.

At that time, farmers and gardeners could not count on a lot of chemical fertilizers because they were inaccessible or unable to buy them. Oh, I’m sure you will like it because it will make life easier. What we didn’t use then and now is why they have healthier plants, higher yields, better-flavored foods, more nutritious foods, and even more colorful flowers. Here too, the difference is organic.


Organically prepared soils eventually become stable and naturally balance the pH. All necessary plant nutrients are available and plants can use what they need and only when they need it. Excessive nutrition of individuals in organic soils is actually buffered and does not harm plants.

Plants that grow in organic soils are inherently more resistant to insects and disease. They are healthier, and insects and diseases usually infect already unhealthy plants.

Chemical fertilizers such as quick blows to the hands and plants greedily absorb more than they need. This weakens the ability of plants to fight disease and insects. Then of course you need an insecticide. However, healthy organic soils are also full of millions of beneficial bacteria and microorganisms. Chemical fertilizers and insecticides kill these much needed elements and further weaken the immune system of plants. With chemicals, we create endless cycles without wins.

Creating organic soil requires very little effort and doesn’t happen overnight. That will require several seasons. However, the results exceeded the effort. And at some point you will find that you spend less time caring for your garden and more time enjoying it.

For starters, start saving these cuttings from leaves and grass. This is a good source without cost. If you don’t have your own, your neighbors will definitely give you some of them. You can make compost or grate it as a top sauce that will dissolve in the ground.
