Shade garden greens and golds! The Twilight Hosta (Hosta ‘Twilight’) is a broad, quilted and textured perennial with gorgeous shiny dark green leaves! Each with a creamy buttery gold margin that really stands out among the dappled shade of larger shrubs and trees!
The yellow margins mellow out to cream as summer advances and then Twilight flowers in long scapes of lavender, trumpet-shaped blossoms arrive as well! Pollinators and hummingbirds will stop by for a visit! They make tall floral design elements as well as fantastic two-tone fillers in garden beds and borders.
Twilight is a more slug-resistant Hosta and can stand up to the sun a bit better than others without leaf burn. The thick leaves are highly ornamental you’ll enjoy a faster growth rate from these improved herbaceous perennials as well!
Planting and Application:
These variegated leaves look wonderful among other shade garden plants or as a featured specimen! Growing to just over 2 feet across, these create tidy mounds of bright foliage that is great for skirting around special urns or structures, along the edges of garden beds and borders, or as ground cover. Plant with equal spacing as facer plant beneath larger shrubs and trees to hide their bare stems.
Twilight plants are full shade perennials but handle part sun too, especially morning sun with afternoon shade, but in the hottest of its USDA zones 3 through 9, they would prefer full shade. These perennials also look lovely in shaded planters and porch pots with annuals, adding filler and color to large mixed plantings! Use as fast-growing cover in long rows and en masse plantings can really catch the eye with these vibrant bi-color leaves! This foliage color combo goes great with Astilbe, early spring flowering Bleeding Hearts, or deciduous shrubs.

Tips for Care:
Variegated Hosta does their very best in almost any moist, organically enriched, very well-drained soil type. Mulch beds very well with 3-4 inches of bark mulch to keep the roots cool and hold moisture more consistently. Very low-maintenance and easy-care perennials, deadhead after flowering and clean the mound of debris and dead leaves after a hard frost kills them back. Divide every 3-5 years, and transplant bare root, when dormant.
