You don’t need a fancy greenhouse or rain forest in the backyard to grow your very own Vanilla Orchid Plant (Vanilla planifolia)! A long vining plant, these are one of a hundred species of Vanilla Orchid that produce seed pods full of flavor and that iconic aroma! Orchid care is easier than you’ve been led to believe!
Strappy, fleshy foliage and greenish-white, star-shaped blossoms are the perks of this lovely plant! The ruffled central portion of the flower has splashes of yellow and frills. When conditions are right, your flowers will produce long brown seed pods where that wonderful vanilla extract comes from! Far better in aroma and flavor than any store-bought artificial flavoring available!

Climbing and clinging by air roots, even if your Orchid isn’t in bloom, it’s a unique houseplant and conversation piece! Orchids are often given a fussy label in the old days, but today it’s easier than ever to grow these lovely and unique plants!

Planting and Application:

Shooting up trees in their native habitat, provide these climbing Orchids some support and the right environment for them to succeed. Give your Vanilla Orchid a loose soil and a bark-covered pole to climb, and you’ll have a truly unique houseplant! You can also let these be hanging plants and let them dangle and drape over their pots.

Specialty gifts, you’ll see eyes grow wide when you give one of these Orchids to the plant enthusiast on your list! Dress up filtered sunny windows or that humid bathroom with a hanging orchid, or let it climb up a support on a warm enclosed sunroom.

Tips for Care:
