Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue! The Younique™ Old Blue Tall Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata ‘Versoldblue’) features all the charm and classic elegance of an old-fashioned wedding party! Free-flowering for a long season of late spring to summer color, this moderately compact, deliciously fragrant Garden Phlox has supersized flowering spikes full of pale violet, muted purplish blues, and antique white all on the same flowering wands!
Old Blues’ multicolored flowers appear in dense clusters atop robust, mildew-resistant foliage. These gorgeous wands are often smothered in pollinators, and often visited by Hummingbirds galore! The streaked and splotched petals look like pinwheels of dreamy color!
Younique™ Tall Garden Phlox is very adaptable, resistant, and hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9 and won’t shrink in the heat or the summer sun! Growing only to a 14-16 inch tall mound when in bloom, the mounds of lush greenery spread to 16-18 inches in width in well-drained soil.
Planting and Application:
Garden Phlox are garden classics! There’s a reason these old-world blooms keep reappearing in landscapes for centuries! Traditional border garden plants, sunny courtyard ruffles and frills, cut flower garden show-offs, and classic Cottage Border vertical color, there’s nowhere that a Phlox won’t enhance!
Old Blue is smaller and space-saving enough for use in containers as upright thrillers and focal points in large urns by your sun-drenched front entry, or around a backyard patio garden! Create groupings and use as edging so the mounds of green foliage can still enhance your landscape long after the flowers fade.
Butterflies and Bees flock to these early blooming nectar sources. Give them what they need, and they’ll stay to help pollinate your fruiting and veggie plants, too! Phlox are great for use in a Rock Garden as a summery accent plant, and they’ll be a good candidate in Cutting gardens! Giving you armloads of fragrant blooms for your indoor vases and bouquets without worrying you are depriving your hummingbirds of their vital nectar resources! Old Blue will have plenty of blooms to go around!

Tips for Care:
Plant herbaceous perennial Garden Phlox in full sun and good Air Circulation – at least six hours of sunlight for the most flowers and brightest color. Provide well-drained soil, and be sure to give them supplemental water during their first year and apply water in a prolonged drought. Apply a three-inch layer of mulch around your plant, but make sure to pull it back from the stems.
Prune Tall Phlox right after the blossoms fade and tidy up the mounds in late autumn after frost. While no plant is truly deer resistant, they do not prefer the taste of these plants. But, if you live in Deer Country, be sure to use Deer Repellent during planting, guided by the instructions on the label.
