Boxwood grows in most types of moderately moist soil so long as it is well-drained, and because of that, it’s advised to avoid planting in heavy clay. Amend the soil with silt, sand, or organic material for best results. If puddles remain on your soil after a heavy rain, or watering, consider elevating the planting area. Add 18 – 24 inches of soil above the native soil line and plant your tree directly in that mound.
