How to Grow and Care for Hedgehog Aloe Plant
Hedgehog Aloe Plant (Aloe humilis ‘Hedgehog’) Growing requirements
Hardiness zone | 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 |
Planting
Start by choosing an area in your home or outdoors that receives bright, indirect light and at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight each day. Once you’ve chosen your location, plant in a container that’s around 1 to 2 times the width of its shipped container, backfill the soil and water to settle the roots.
Watering
Its succulent-like leaves mean the Hedgehog Aloe is drought tolerant and perfect for beginners or frequent travelers, but it’s important to have a steady watering schedule. Watering your Hedgehog once every week or week and a half should suffice, but if you’re not sure when your plant needs water, simply check its soil. If the soil is dry around 2 to 3 inches down, it’s time to water. Otherwise, your Hedgehog Aloe can handle dry air and doesn’t need extra humidity.
Fertilizing
Use a house plant fertilizer at half strength two to three times per year, during the spring and summer.
