Spread delicious fragrance out along your garden paths and planting beds with low-growing Snow Girl Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides WAH-LM PP# 30,239). You and your garden guests will be amazed at the super lustrous, dark green foliage of this compact, mounded cultivar!
Starting in spring, single white flowers perfume your yard with buds that pop up above the foliage in a generous display. The scented flowers keep coming in intermittent flowering through fall
Planting and Application:
Snow Girl is heat tolerant, with strong branches that spread wider than tall. Consider this a fine-textured Gardenia groundcover to bring lush, evergreen color all year.
- Layer them in the foreground underneath taller shrubs for a shiny ribbon of dark green foliage that catches the sunlight. Space them 30 inches apart, or stagger a double row for faster results.
- Add several more staggered rows to create a mass planting at the feet of garden sculptures or flag poles. The sheen of the leaves will double the visual impact!
- Use them as tremendous “Fillers” in your outdoor garden containers. Even Northern gardeners will enjoy their sub-tropical beauty for a season!
- They’ll be a cunning addition to a Gardenia collection. Try underplanting an Aimee Gardenia Tree Form with petite Snow Girl Gardenias.
- They make a natural partner with Roses and Lavender in a Garden of the Senses. Line either side of your front walkway for a sensuous experience on the way indoors.
Tips for Care:
Snow Girl Gardenias will perform full sun or partial shade with at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Give her well-drained, slightly acidic soils.
- Apply pine bark mulch over the root system; then pull it away from touching the stems. Give water on a regular basis for best results, especially during the first season.
- Prune to shape as needed after the first flush of flowers is finished. Remove crossing branches and any branches that may be damaged; trimming at a 45-degree angle.
